Smoke Alarm Battery WARNING

I recently had an issue with one of the hard wired smoke alarm detectors in my townhouse using a Duracell battery. The battery expanded out the back spilling its inside into the smoke alarm. I had to turn off the power, disconnect the unit from the ceiling and remove the damaged battery.

I found a warning on the manufacture's website stating that there is a defect in the model our houses have and that only Eveready 1222 or 522 batteries should be used. I then searched the Internet and found a 6ABC.com news article on this exact issue. The best website I found on the issue is here. It explains that Eveready 1222 batteries are marketed as Energizer Max and Eveready 522 are marketed as Eveready Super Heavy Duty. They recommend the Energizer Max brand. The issue is that Duracell batteries are too long for the battery compartment in the smoke alarm causing a bad connection to the unit.

I will be replacing all my smoke alarm batteries as soon as I can. Check your units so you don't encounter this issue as well.

End Unit Frame Assembly

One of our residents is having a company come out and give an estimate for an outside overhang for the end units like some of them already have. If more people wanted one, we could possibly negioate a better price for everyone. Please email the board at fchaboard@hotmail.com and put "End Unit Overhang Roof" in the subject line if you live in an end unit and would like an outside overhang roof. Thanks.
